Miguel de la Madrid

Miguel de la Madrid was president of Mexico from 1982 to 1988. A member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) that governed Mexico for more than 70 years, he was known for his privatization of state-run industries and promotion of austerity measures. De la Madrid was interviewed by professors Gary Gereffi and Frederick Mayer, and Ph.D. candidate Scott Littlehale on April 9, 1996. In this interview, they discuss the Mexican debt crisis and the country's entry into General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). The interview was annotated by Mary Coyne.
